Our Governance Philosophy
Abubakar Yakubu is an accomplished banker, entrepreneur, and multi-disciplinary executive who serves as the inaugural Independent Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of KoloSquare Limited. As Chairman, he provides the apex governance leadership that ensures the Company’s Board operates with the rigor, independence, and strategic clarity required of a regulated, investor-grade financial technology organization. He brings to this role a rare convergence of deep financial services expertise, technology fluency, investment management experience, and a commanding professional network across Nigeria’s financial and business landscape that KoloSquare is uniquely positioned to leverage.
Abubakar built a distinguished banking career spanning over a decade across some of Nigeria’s most prominent financial institutions. At Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria Limited, he served as Client Relationship Officer for Priority and International Banking, providing sophisticated financial advisory services to high-net-worth individuals and institutional clients, managing wealth profiles, structuring fixed income investments both onshore and offshore, facilitating Sukuk investments, and delivering personalized banking solutions to the most discerning segment of the Nigerian market. He subsequently served as Acting Branch Manager of Standard Chartered Bank in Abuja, where he oversaw full branch operations, deposit mobilization, and the management of human and material resources. Earlier in his career, he served as Wealth Management Specialist at Oceanic Bank International Plc, advising high-net-worth clients on financial planning, risk management, and investment strategy, and later managed the Public Sector Group portfolios at both Oceanic Bank and Ecobank Nigeria Limited across key Abuja locations.
In 2020 he diversified into Manufacturing when he started Ayan Rolls limited, Ayan Rolls is now a leading Tissue Paper converting company in Abuja. He currently leads Ayan Global Resources, a multi-sector company headquartered in Abuja with a portfolio spanning oil and gas, construction, facility management, manufacturing and education, with an institutional client base that includes agencies of Nigeria’s Ministry of Defense, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), among others. His leadership of Ayan Global over a decade reflects the capacity to build and sustain a commercially complex, multi-sector organization at scale, a discipline that directly informs his governance contribution to KoloSquare.
Beyond his corporate leadership, Abubakar advises and manages investment portfolios for high-profile corporate individuals on a private basis, drawing on the wealth management and investment structuring expertise developed during his years at Standard Chartered and Oceanic Bank. This active engagement with private capital markets, combined with his broad institutional relationships across Nigeria’s financial sector equips him with the kind of real-time market intelligence and investor network that provides KoloSquare with both strategic guidance and access to capital at the highest levels of the Nigerian financial community.
Abubakar holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Gloucestershire, United Kingdom; a Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership from Stratford Academy of Business and Management; a Master of Science in Information Technology from the National Open University of Nigeria; and a Master of Information Management from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. He holds a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi. He is a member of Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), a Member of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (MCPN) and a Member of the National Institute of Management Chartered (MNIM). His combined grounding in banking, business administration, information technology, strategic management, and wealth management positioned him strategically for effective leadership of KoloSquare Board.
Yahaya Muhammed Labib is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of KoloSquare Ltd, a social enterprise company established in October 2025 to digitize Africa’s vast informal savings economy. KoloSquare is built around the centuries-old community savings traditions known as Ajo, Esusu, Adashe, Chama, Tontine, Daret, Jam’iyya, Upatu, Stokvel and Village Savings & Loan Associations (VSLAs) that hundreds of millions of Africans rely on daily.
Prior to founding KoloSquare, Labib built a distinguished professional career spanning over two decades across international development, humanitarian programming, and public governance. As Food Security and Livelihoods Manager at Cuso International, he led the UNHCR Livelihoods Enhancement, Economic Inclusion, and Self-Reliance Programme across Benue, Cross River, Taraba, and Akwa Ibom States empowering over 3,000 Cameroonian refugee households into sustainable livelihoods and establishing 220 functional Village Savings and Loan Associations. As Country Livelihoods Program Officer between 2016 and 2019 at VSO Nigeria, he developed and scaled multi-stakeholder programs that empowered 10,000 smallholder farmers across Zamfara and Niger States, established 300 functional VSLAs, and led groundnut value chain development with a deliberate focus on women and youth cooperatives. He also served as Lead Consultant on Social Accountability at the Kogi State Bureau of Public Procurement, where he designed a holistic Public Social Accountability Service Plan that embedded social inclusion and value-for-money principles into the heart of state governance. His career began in 2001 at the Women Farmers Advancement Network (WOFAN), where he rose progressively through farm management, agricultural programming, monitoring and evaluation, and business development roles over more than a decade.
Labib is a serial entrepreneur and institution builder beyond KoloSquare. He co-founded E-Bus & Logistics Ltd, an innovative electric mass transit company developing technology-driven public transport solutions for Nigerian and African cities. He is the Founder and Sponsor of the Post-Pandemic African Foundation, which provided alternative livelihoods support and mentorship to over 50 young Nigerians who lost employment during the COVID-19 pandemic. His government consultancy portfolio includes a State Skills Development and Job Creation Policy for Kano State, an eight-year Agricultural Commercialization Programme, and a State Development and Youth Empowerment Roadmap for Kogi State, among others.
Labib is an alumni of the prestigious Bayero University Kano where he studied Bachelor of Agriculture (Economics and Extension), he holds a Diploma in Project Management from ALISON Ireland, a Certificate in Problem-Driven Iterative Adaptation (PDIA) for Building State Capability from Harvard University Centre for International Development in USA, and a certificate on Mastering the Essentials of Project Management from Crown Agents in UK. Labib has received specialist executive training across institutions spanning four continents including Consortium Management and Partnerships at Cuso International in Ottawa Canada, Digital Innovation and Artificial Intelligence at Prospects Development Services in Dubai UAE, Resilience Building, Gender & Social Inclusion and Advocating Social Accountability at VSO in Rangpur Bangladesh and in Moroto Uganda respectively. Labib has worked across institutional partnerships and programmes with UNHCR, UNICEF, USAID, CTA, IITA, ICRISAT, GIZ, and several state and federal government agencies across Nigeria.
Dauda Musa Wulgo is the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of KoloSquare Ltd, he bears full responsibility for KoloSquare’s technology vision, software architecture, platform development, and the protocols and standards that govern its technical infrastructure. Dauda brings to this role over 23 years of enterprise software development experience, a career defined by the breadth of systems he has built, the complexity of problems he has solved, and a rare combination of deep technical mastery and practical institutional delivery across some of Nigeria’s most demanding technology environments.
Dauda is a software architect with specialist expertise in entity relations and database engineering, and he is highly proficient across a wide spectrum of programming languages including Python, Java, C#, PHP, JavaScript, Dart, Go, Ruby, C, C++, Visual Basic .Net, and B4X. His database competency spans Firebird, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, SQLite, and several others, giving KoloSquare the versatility to design, build and implement robust, scalable, and secure data infrastructure from the ground up. He is equally experienced in both open-source and proprietary development platforms, with deep familiarity across frameworks including Laravel, Yii, Xamarin, Frappe, Drupal, Microsoft .Net, and B4X, and development environments spanning Windows, Ubuntu, and web-based ecosystems.
Over the course of his career, Dauda has led and contributed to an extensive portfolio of mission-critical software projects across diverse sectors. His work spans mobile applications, desktop systems across Windows, Linux, and iOS, web-based platforms, and enterprise-grade solutions including Payroll Systems, Human Resource Management Software, Hospital Information Management Systems, Integrated Tax Administration Systems, Pension Software, Accounting Software, Election Monitoring and Reporting Systems, Livestock Identification and Management Solutions, Ride-Hailing Applications, Crowd Funding Solutions, Estate Management Systems, Biometric Applications, and Identity Card Production Software, among others. This breadth of delivery across public institutions, private enterprises, and technology consultancies reflects a technologist who has consistently operated at the intersection of complex systems design and real-world deployment.
Dauda’s professional journey spans institutions and organizations across Nigeria’s major technology hubs. He has worked with Inteliworx Technologies Ltd, Sponge Analytics Limited, EasyGIS Nigeria Limited, Development Strategies International, Mobile Medical Database Limited, Livestock247.com, Super Digital Data Solutions, AFIM Software Services Ltd, AMLSoft Consulting, Minaret Multimedia, and the Nigerian Defence Academy, among others. He has also led his own consulting practice, Wulgo Consulting through which he has provided software development, training, and technical advisory services. This combination of institutional experience and independent consulting has produced a technology leader with both the discipline of enterprise delivery and the agility of entrepreneurial execution.
Dauda holds a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the prestigious University of Maiduguri, and completed his foundational computing studies at Yaysib Computer Institute in Maiduguri Nigeria. His global technology exposure includes attendance at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas USA in 2016, one of the world’s foremost technology innovation showcases, and participation in the Big Data Conference at GITEX in Dubai in 2013, reflecting an early and sustained engagement with frontier technologies long before they became mainstream.
Dr. Aishat Adaviruku is a multi-award-winning executive coach, human development strategist, and financial services professional who brings to the KoloSquare Board a powerful convergence of organizational leadership, banking operations expertise, Islamic finance practice, and transformative people development. A recipient of both the Icon of Peace and Icon of Mentorship awards, she is recognized across Nigeria as a leading voice in executive coaching and leadership transformation. As an Independent Non-Executive Director of KoloSquare, Dr. Aishat provides KoloSquare with independent strategic oversight, governance depth, and the human capital perspective essential to building an inclusive, people-centered fintech organization at scale.
Dr. Aishat is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of MasterCoach Coaching and Mentoring Hub Ltd, a human development enterprise established in December 2020 and has since grown into one of Nigeria’s most respected coaching institutions. A Certified NLP Master Practitioner and Trainer, MasterCoach, and Master Performance Consultant, she leads a practice dedicated to igniting personal and organizational growth across coaching, executive leadership development, performance consulting, brand and business consulting, and public speaking. Under her leadership MasterCoach Hub has certified over 145 NLP Practitioners, coaching leaders and professionals toward becoming catalysts for measurable, positive change in their organizations and communities.
Prior to her transition into coaching and consulting, Dr. Aishat built a substantive career in Nigerian banking spanning over a decade. As Regional Sales Manager and Non-Interest Banking Relationship Manager at Sterling Bank Plc, she led a team of 27 Direct Sales Executives and managed the Abuja regional portfolio for the bank’s Non-Interest Banking division, overseeing business development, risk asset creation, Shariah-compliant investment structuring, and customer acquisition across the Federal Capital Territory. Her tenure at Jaiz Bank Plc, Nigeria’s pioneer non-interest bank gave her foundational exposure to Islamic banking operations, domestic e-business, funds transfer, and multi-function branch leadership. She began her banking career at Unity Bank Plc, where she held roles in relationship management, credit appraisal, risk asset creation, and funds transfer operations.
Between 2019 and 2021, Dr. Aishat served as Manager of Business and Strategy at Bilaad Realty in Abuja where she led investment advisory operations, managed executive client relationships, and contributed to corporate policy formulation and strategic planning further broadening her perspective across real estate, investment management, and business strategy. This cross-sectoral experience across banking, real estate, and human development has shaped a board-level leader capable of engaging with equal fluency in governance, strategy, risk, and organizational culture.
Dr. Aishat holds a Professional Doctorate in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from IBTL, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. She is a Chartered Islamic Finance Professional (CIFP), having studied at the Global University of Islamic Finance (INCEIF) in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, one of the world’s foremost institutions for Islamic finance education. She is a Graduate of the Nigerian Institute of Management (GNIM) and holds professional designations including Fellow of the Performance Management Consultants (FPMC), Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Administrative Professionals (FCiAP), and Fellow of the Institute of Certified Reputation and Peace Consultants (FICRPC). Her causes span economic empowerment, education, social inclusion, human rights, and poverty alleviation. These are values that align closely with KoloSquare’s mission to expand financial access for underserved communities across Africa.
